“Design & Development”

“Design and Development” - Hayden Crompton
Location: Choir Room
God clearly lays out His design for our kids and the way to live in His Word. Understanding what stage of life your child or teen is in will allow you to embrace your role in their discipleship journey. Join us as we discuss the stages of development, God’s design, and when it’s time to disciple your kids through the hard things.
Opening illustration:
Design and Development.
Research --- Design --- Development
Development CANNOT exist without design.
The truth is, without God’s design, we would never be able to develop our kids into Godly men and women.
so what is our goal as parents?
Be obedient to the Word and decide now to disciple them toward an independent faith!
Raise Godly grandkids

1. God’s Design

God’s design should be my goal.

a. God’s Design is Wonderful

The Sensorimotor Stage - Ages: Birth to 2 Years

Infants learn that things continue to exist even though they cannot be seen (object permanence)
They are separate beings from the people and objects around them
They realize that their actions can cause things to happen in the world around them

The Preoperational Stage - Ages: 2 to 7 Years

Children begin to think symbolically and learn to use words and pictures to represent objects.
Children at this stage tend to be egocentric and struggle to see things from the perspective of others.
While they are getting better with language and thinking, they still tend to think about things in very concrete terms
how to develop them?
babies-2: There is a God that’s out there that you may not be able to see.

The Concrete Operational Stage - Ages: 7 to 11 Years

During this stage, children begin to thinking logically about concrete events
They begin to understand the concept of conservation;
that the amount of liquid in a short, wide cup is equal to that in a tall, skinny glass, for example
Their thinking becomes more logical and organized, but still very concrete
Children begin using inductive logic, or reasoning from specific information to a general principle Major Characteristics and Developmental Changes

The Formal Operational Stage - Ages: 12 and Up

At this stage, the adolescent or young adult begins to think abstractly and reason about hypothetical problems
Abstract thought emerges
Teens begin to think more about moral, philosophical, ethical, social, and political issues that require theoretical and abstract reasoning
Begin to use deductive logic, or reasoning from a general principle to specific information

b. God Designed for a Purpose

c. God’s Design was Broken

70% of teens say anxiety and depression is a major problem in their community.
51% say that drug addiction is a major problem.
45% drinking alcohol
52% of teens believe abortion is morally wrong.
The Results
Anxiety
Suicide
Cyber bullying
Pornography

d. God’s Design is Restored

The dilemma is that we have exchanged the truth about God for a lie.
The Hope for Generation Z is:
The Savior - “who”
The Sacrifice - “Gave himself”
The substitute - “for us”
The specifics - “to redeem”
Sanctify - “purify unto Himself”
here’s where it gets good, this is the goal
God cannot allow anything unholy in
Spirit - “good works”

2. Godly Development

What stage are you in?

a. Protect

Early childhood (babies through kindergarten)
Joshua 24:14 KJV 1900
14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.

b. Teach

elementary age kid

2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. 6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. 9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; 10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

e. Mentor

1 Timothy 4:10 KJV 1900
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

3. Godly Discussion

Principles:
Be proactive
Be discerning
Corrie Ten Boom had questions about sexuality, and her dad used the illustration of having her carry his suitcase up the stairs. She said, I can’t do it i’m not strong enough. He said, that’s exactly right and just like that, you aren’t quite emotionally strong enough to hear that yet.
Age of 9 they can begin having insecurity. They can then turn to sex for affirmation.
